New Delhi, May 18 (IANS) A group of architecture students who have been barred from writing the exams after falling short in attendance Tuesday met Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal seeking relief from him.Five of the affected students from the School of Planning and Architecture and one parent met the minister at his house here.'We are demanding that we must be allowed to appear in the exams,' said Uzair Siddiqui, a second year student who spoke to reporters outside Sibal's residence but did not meet the minister.The institute witnessed protests by students Monday because many were prevented from giving the exams after falling short of the 75 percent required attendance.The exams for third year students started Monday while those for first and second year began Tuesday.Akshay Khurana, another second year student, said: 'First, we want to give our exams. Second, we want to work out a system through which attendance is taken diligently and throughout the year.'The institute says it is only executing a 2001 Union Grants Commission regulation which makes 75 percent attendance mandatory for students to sit for the exams.
