New Delhi, May 10 (PTI) Cardamom prices maintained an upward march by adding Rs 25.50 or 1.63 per cent at Rs 1,589 per kg in futures trade today on rising spot demand against thin arrivals. On the Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom for current May contract remained in demand and surged by Rs 25.50 or 1.63 per cent to Rs 1,589 per kg, with a business volume of 143 lots. The spice for delivery in August contract rose by Rs 20.90 or 1.52 per cent to Rs 1,400 per kg, with a trading volume of four lots, while June contract also inched up by Rs 17 or 1.18 per cent to Rs 1,452.90 per kg in a business turnover of 54 lots. Traders said, rising demand in spot market against less supply from producing regions mainly led to an upsurge in cardamom prices. They said, reports of tight stocks from producing centres, such as Gangtok and Siliguri coupled with rise in exports demand led to an upsurge in cardamom prices in futures trade.
