DGCA to fill up over 150 posts on short-term contract

Mumbai, May 10 (PTI) The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) plans to hire 178 personnel pan India on a short-term contract in a bid to overcome severe manpower crunch faced by it for last few years. The civil aviation regulator plans to fill up 178 posts in various segments on contract up to one year, a circular posted on the DGCA website said. This is the first time in last 19 years that the regulator is hiring such a large number of people. The last big hiring in the DGCA was in 1991 and since then it has not done any major recruitment though the number of scheduled air operators has grown from 2 to 7. The vacancies are existing in key areas such as air safety, air worthiness, operations, flights operations inspection, cabin safety and aeronauticals. Acknowledging the manpower shortage, Director General of Civil Aviation Nasim Zaidi had in March said the agency plans to recruit over 550 technical experts as part of restructuring and expansion exercise in next two years. "We will be hiring 200 technical officers by September -October this year," he had said. Zaidi had also said the organisation would hire technical officials on contract spanning one year.
