Dog show in Ootacamund

Ootacamund (Tamil Nadu), May 10 (ANI): Over 400 dogs of different breeds took part in a three-day dog show organized by a dog club in Ootacamund in Tamil Nadu.The South of India Kennel Club organized the national level dog show on Sunday.he show consisted of three categories - Obedience show, Doberman Specialty Show and All Breeds Show.The organizers said the show had become more popular as the number of participating dogs proved."We had total entry of 429 dogs against 210 of last year. We had an obedience show with 39 dogs against 9 dogs last year," said Krishna Morthy, President of the South of India Kennel Club Association.Locals and spectators turned up in large numbers to catch a glimpse of such a huge variety of dogs.Judges were invited from Thailand as well as from India to judge the show."This is Lhasa (Apso). People know this breed very well and this breed was very popular in Tibet. Apso is the meaning of dog in their language and it is popular because of Dalai Lama. He used to present this as a gift to his guests and all his friends. This breed is known as the symbol of luck. They never sell this dog. This is very rare nowadays in India," said Jayaraj, whose Lhasa Apso participated in the show.Nearly 60 varieties of dogs from across the country like Lhasa Apso, German Shepherd (Alsatian), Doberman, Siberian Husky, Miniature Pinscher, Irish Setter, Pug, Daschund and Bull dogs participated in the show.
