New Delhi, May 4 (PTI) After issuing notices to top private firms over illegal hoardings and banners, the MCD has shifted its focus to unauthorised advertisements in petrol pumps and CNG stations in the city. The Advertisement Department of the civic agency has written a letter to all oil companies maintaining that its permission is mandatory for putting up hoardings or banners in the premises of the petrol pumps run by them in areas under MCD jurisdiction, officials said. "Except the allowed self-signage of 2.5 sq metre at each of the premises, for any display of services or products of oil companies as well as commercial displays of other companies, permission of the (Municipal) Commissioner is required under Section 143 of the DMC Act," it said in the letter. In case of persistent violation of the rules, it warned that the Corporation will have no other option but to take action against the unauthorised advertisements displayed at petrol pump or CNG station premises "under the relevant law after 15th of May 2010, at the risk, cost and expenses of the concerned companies. Officials said the MCD had earlier too written a letter to all oil companies on April 29 which was advisory in nature. "It appears that no cognizance of the said letter has been taken at ground level. "The result is that unauthorised displays are still continuing in the premises of your petrol pumps or CNG Stations," the latest letter said. The Department has requested the firms to give sufficient instructions to enforce the request made. It had earlier issued notices to a number of top private firms, including cellphone operators and realtors, asking them to remove advertisements put up by them at unauthorised sites. The income of MCD from advertisements was Rs 10.3 crore in April this year, recording an all-time high growth of 356 per cent over the corresponding period in 2009. Chairman of MCD Standing Committee Ram Kishan Singhal said the growth has been made possible due to its effective strategy of penalising the advertisers who display wall-wraps, hoardings and bill-boards without MCD''s permission.
