Mercury level in Delhi crosses 40 degree mark

New Delhi, May 10 (PTI) The mercury crossed the 40 degree mark again in the capital today, ending the four day respite from searing heat. The mercury soared to a high of 40.7 degree Celsius, which was one notch above normal and up by 1.7 degrees from yesterday''s 39 degrees, the Met department said. The minimum was recorded at 26.2 degree Celsius, also one degree above normal. Yesterday, the lowest temperature was 27.5 degrees. The humidity levels oscillated between 21 and 54 per cent. The maximum temperature was recorded at 35.5 degree Celsius on Thursday and it had remained under 40 degree Celsius till yesterday. The Met officials have forecast mainly clear sky tomorrow and said the mercury will remain between 26 and 41 degree Celsius. The temperature had shown a declining trend in the past few days after touching a high of 43.7 degrees on April 24. A day later, the minimum had touched a 41-year high of 30.6 degrees.
