New Zealand pip Pakistan in last ball thriller

News posted by www.newsinfoline.com

New Zealand won a thrilling last ball battle with champions Pakistan in the Twenty20 World Cup on Saturday, edging the dramatic contest by a single run.Pakistan, chasing New Zealand's 133, recovered from a poor start of 58 for five after 9.4 overs thanks to an unbeaten 67 from Salman Butt and went into the final two overs needing 22.With three needed from the last two balls, Pakistan scampered a single, surviving a run out appeal, but that left Abdul Rehman on strike for the final ball and he then looped it to Martin Guptill on the midwicket boundary who swallowed up the catch.A single would have taken the game to a 'Super Over' tiebreaker but the defeat leaves Pakistan without a point from two games in the Super Eight stage and facing elimination if South Africa beat England later on Saturday.(Reporting by Simon Evans; editing by Pritha Sarkar; To query or comment on this story email sportsfeedback@thomsonreuters.com)
