Mumbai, May 18 -- More than a month after two major armed robbery cases involving valuables worth more than Rs 5 crore, the Kherwadi police have not been able to identify any of the accused. Eight accused (four in each case) were involved and the police said they have made four teams to investigate the cases. "We rounded up history sheeters and offenders involved in robbery cases but did not find anybody's involvement in these cases," said senior inspector U K Rathod. He added that the police are finding it difficult as the complainant could not give proper descriptions of the accused. "As both the incidents took place in a matter of a few seconds, the victim was left with less time to register the faces of the accused. There are no independent eye witnesses of the cases," he said. In the first case on April 2, Kalbadevi-based Mahesh Kumar Sharma (48), owner of Ashok Courier Services Company was robbed of diamonds worth Rs 2.2 crore. Sharma was heading towards the domestic airport in his car, near Teacher's colony on the Western Express Highway, when four robbers in a car accosted him. They threatened him with a chopper and snatched the bag containing valuables. The second incident took place on May 10 on the Prabodhankar Thackeray flyover in Bandra where a Kolkata-based gold merchant Tapan Maji (45), was robbed of valuables worth Rs 2.9 crore at gun-point by four bike-borne masked men. The police are monitoring telephone conversations of the complainants and questioning those who talk with them over the phone. The investigators are roping in retired officers from the Mumbai police for help. "We have sought help from senior officers who had solved several cases in the past," the officer added.
