Rentals of Wakf properties to be revised in J-K

Srinagar, May 10 (PTI) Jammu and Kashmir Wakf Board today decided to revise the rentals of all its properties as per market rates. The decision was taken at a meeting of the board here which was chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, an official spokesman said. "There is an urgent need for revising rentals according to rates prevalent in the market to ensure justified returns from the users of the Wakf property," the Board, which looks after the affairs of shrines and institutions, observed. Addressing the meeting, Omar, who is also the chairman of the board, underscored the need for proper maintenance and better utilisation of the Wakf property. It is the duty of Muslim community as well as the Wakf Board to safeguard the properties and ensure better returns from its users, he said. He constituted two committees of the members and assigned them the job to work out the programme for propagation of religious education including restoration of the functioning of madinat-ul-Uloom and examine the demands of Wakf employees for revision of pay scales.
