Jaipur, May 10 (PTI) The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence today seized about Rs 60 lakh from a middle-east country bound passenger from Sanganer airport here. Official sources said Gauri Prasad was picked up by the DRI sleuths from the airport following specific inputs that he would be taking huge amount of money abroad. They said the money (all genuine) along with certain amount of foreign currency was meant to be taken out of the country as Indian currency is in demand there. Many Indians living in those countries exchange Indian currencies for foreign currency there and then again exchange them here once they are back. According to estimates, the profits in such exchanges can be as high as 250-350 Dhirams per Rs one lakh. Genuine Indian currency is also smuggled out of the country to settle hawala transactions too. Sources said Prasad belonged to the Jhunjhun district and further probe is being done to ascertain if he had any accomplices.
