This Bill provides for the creation of a Legislative Council in Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu had a legislative council for a number of years, until the state legislature passed a resolution in 1986 to abolish it. The state assembly, with the DMK government, recently passed a resolution to re-establish it. The Bill establishes the Legislative Council with 78 members, the expenditure for which is to be borne by the government of the state.
