"In the present times, electronic technology has become the new guide, trainer and facilitator. It is, therefore, appropriate for its growth to continue exploring, widening and strengthening support systems like audio-video lessons, digital library, e-mails, e-newsletters, web designing and use of internet, blogs and video conferencing," said Vice-Chancellor Jaspal Singh. While inaugurating a two-day workshop on the theme 'Advanced Methodology and Technology in Distance Education', he said that distance education provides an opportunity to study at one's convenience and enhances time management. He further said that instead of bringing the learner to the institute, it aims at taking knowledge to their doorsteps. Singh added that adapting to the changing times, such learners should be given the opportunity of e-learning together with the traditional tools.Chief guest Madhu Parhar, director, Inter-University Consortium, IGNOU, said technology aims at reforming the traditional classroom into an e-environment in order to provide quality distance education to the learners.Registrar Manjit Singh said that with the emergence of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), the distance learner can also be given quality education.
