Thane, May 18 -- She got away after stealing jewellery worth Rs 80,000 from a shop at Naupada. A week later, Komal Rathod (27) returned to the same shop unaware that she was caught on a closed-circuit television (CCTV). Rathod was arrested but her accomplice escaped. On May 11, Rathod and the man, who is in his 40s, entered Rajawat Jewellers posing as customers. "Since the shop was crowded, the salesman was busy. Rathod managed to steal a gold necklace and earrings without getting noticed," said Hemant Sawant, police inspector of the Naupada police station. "But she was caught on the CCTV. We took copies of her photographs and circulated them among all jewellery stores hoping she will strike again," Sawant added. With Akshaya Tritiya on Sunday, the police had increased patrolling and alerted jewellery stores to look out for robbers as many people buy gold on this day. "On Sunday, she returned to the jewellery shop with the same man but in a different attire. She came dressed as a Gujarati, but her way of talking and mannerisms gave her away. The alert staff at the jewellery store nabbed her immediately and informed us. The man, however, managed to escape," said Sawant. Rathod was produced in court on Monday and was remanded in police custody until May 21.
