Mumbai, June 20 -- The Anti-Corruption Bureau of the Central Bureau of Investigation on Saturday arrested a senior Army officer for allegedly accepting a bribe from a candidate who wanted to join the force. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Praveen Salunkhe told Hindustan Times that Major Dipendra Bhushan, posted as medical officer at the Army Recruitment Office in Colaba, was trapped while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000. "Major Bhushan contacted around 35 candidates who had cleared the written and physical tests and whose list had come to him. He asked them for money to clear their medical test," Salunkhe said. He added that one of the candidates approached the CBI. The major had asked the candidate to come to CST, where his man would contact him. "The candidate was eventually called to Fashion Street where he the major's driver, Bharat Oram, who was acting as the middleman, met him," Salunkhe said. He added that the CBI is conducting searches at Major Bhushan's office and residence. "We will produce them before court tomorrow," Major Bhushan, an Armed Forces Medical College pass out, had been in the service for the past 11 years.
