To enforce accountability among coal block allottees, the Coal Ministry has de-allocated the blocks of three companies besides deducting money from the bank guarantees furnished by as many firms for their failure to achieve the stipulated milestones."After the latest meeting of the high-powered committee to review the status of the allocated coal blocks, we found that at least three companies — Binani Cement, Murali Industries and Grace Industries and Tamil Nadu Industries Captive Power Company Ltd (TICAPCO) — have not met the set milestones and the panel recommended de-allocation," Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal told The Indian Express. Binani Cement was allocated the Datima block on September 5, 2008 but was asked to furnish a bank guarantee of Rs 5.86 crore for it within 15 days, which the firm failed to provide. Similarly, Murli Industries also had to give up the Lohara East block following its failure to achieve any milestones. Likewise, Ticapco too had to forfeit its block as it idled over it for nine years, the minister said.
