New Delhi, May 11 -- A city court has started criminal proceedings against four Delhi police officers, including an SHO, for allegedly detaining a man at the R.K. Puram police station. The man had tried to register a complaint against corrupt police officials. Metropolitan Magistrate S P S Laler directed the lodging of the criminal case against SHO of R K Puram, Manmohan Ralhan, Traffic Inspector Vishwanathan, Assistant Sub Inspector Sri Bhagwan and Head Constable Prem Singh. "A perusal of the complaint and documents discloses the commission of a cognisable offense and investigation by police is required to find out the truth behind the allegations which included that of corruption as well," said the judge. According to Gaur, he was detained at the R K Puram police station for nine hours on the intervening night of April 29 and 30 by the SHO, as he wanted to lodge an FIR against traffic police personnel. His complaint alleged that he, along with his wife, was going to work on the morning of April 29, when he saw Head Constable Singh and ASI Sri Bhagwan signal a Blueline bus, which braked suddenly. This caused a traffic jam on the spot; also, his car was hit by another private bus. Gaur claimed when he and his wife requested the police personnel to chase the private bus, the traffic police personnel started abusing him and his wife. The court asked the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) concerned to refer the case for investigation to an officer who was higher in the rank to the SHO so that the "probe is not unduly influenced".
