Abducted Naga officer released

Kohima, Jun 12 (PTI) The Nagaland government officer, who was abducted along with his driver in central Assam on June 4, was released today. Dimapur SP Liremo Lotha said Child development project officer (CDPO) T Sashi and his driver were released by their abductors this evening at Hojai under Nagaon district and they were on their way to Dimapur escorted by a team of policemen. The officer was going to Hojai on June 4 when he was kidnapped and the abductors demanded a ransom of Rs 50 lakh from his family members. It could not be ascertained whether any ransom was paid for their release. Earlier, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio had written to his Assam counterpart Tarun Gogoi to take all measure for the safe release of the CDPO. In a statement this evening, Nagaland Home Minister Imkong Imchen appreciated the role of Dimapur police led by SP Liremo Lotha and Nagaon (Assam) SP and his team for pursuing the case and rescuing the officer.
