New Delhi, June 18 -- The Delhi University Sports Council (DUSC) issued admit cards for the centralised sports trials, which has been introduced for the first time this year, amid protest from some student bodies on Thursday. The controversy surrounding the trials surfaced again when members of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) and Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) disrupted the distribution of the admit cards demanding a fair selection criteria. "We are here on behalf of the students. We want to have fair and transparent selection criteria for those applying through the sports quota," said Arshdeep Kaur, secretary, DUSU. Till last year, the weightage given to certificates produced and the performance in trials was equal. This year, the certificates will account for 75 per cent of the marks whereas trials will have just 25 per cent weightage, which the teachers and student bodies are protesting. As a result, only 1,500 students could be issued admit cards. "We started the programme at 9.30 am and it was going on peacefully. Some members of the student bodies snatched the files and papers from our staff and stalled the distribution of admit cards," said Sudarshan Pathak, coordinating director, DUSC. As a result, students who came from various corners of the country went back disappointed. "We are here since from morning, waiting to get the admit cards. It is not easy for us to come again," said Archana Adnani, who came with her daughter from Jodhpur. "I thought it would be a matter of few hours and I could return home today. But now I have to wait till tomorrow," said Anubhav Gupta, who had come from Lucknow to collect his admit card. Meanwhile, the varsity announced the dates and venues for the centralised sports trials that will take place from June 22-27 across various venues such as colleges and schools. The students can obtain their admit cards from the office of the DUSC till June 21. Candidates are required to bring their admit cards and the sports playing kits and report half-an-hour before at the respective venue. The football trials for women will be held at Janki Devi Memorial College, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital Marg and Swami Shradhanand College, Alipur, for men, on June 22.
