New Delhi, May 5 -- Not many Delhiites install khus curtains now a days to beat the scorching summer. But the birds' aviary in the Delhi Zoo has got its counterpart by way of an agri-net clubbed with water sprinkling to protect the delicate winged inhabitants from the heat. Agri-net (a green coloured net) for birds is not the only change that the administration of Delhi Zoo has brought into effect this summer. Like every summer, it has put up coolers and covers for protecting the bigger animals from heat. There are more than 25 coolers at the cages housing lion, tiger (yellow and white both), bear, chimpanzee, jaguar and leopard. "There are also cemented willow pools filled with water in the cages of the big cats," said Zoo Director in-charge Anand Krishna. Another change is reducing the diet of most of the zoo inhabitants by 10 per cent, except herbivores like deer, so as to enable them to build up natural resistance to the rising mercury.
