Lahore, May 8 (PTI) Former Test cricketer Wasim Akram approached a Pakistani court today to obtain a "succession certificate" to gain control of his late wife Huma''s moveable assets worth millions of rupees. Akram, currently in India, also filed a declaration suit to get his wife''s immoveable assets transferred to him as he is her "sole legal heir" and natural guardian of her two children. Huma, 42, died in Chennai, India, in October last year due to multiple organ failure. In an application filed through his counsel in a civil court in Lahore, Akram said that his wife died on October 25, 2009 leaving behind two minor sons, Taimoor and Akbar. He said his wife had several bank accounts with Rs 715,000 in cash, Rs 195,000 in term deposit certificates and over 40,000 dollars. Akram asked the court to issue him a succession certificate so that he could withdraw these moveable assets. In the declaration suit, he said that his late wife owned a plot in a posh locality of Lahore. He requested the court to allow him to get the plot transferred in his name. The court set May 19 as the date for hearing the applications and sought objections from the public through media advertisement. Sources told PTI that Akram had developed differences with his in-laws over the treatment of Huma. "Huma''s father and sisters were not happy over her treatment in Pakistan and wanted to get her treated abroad without any delay," said a doctor who had treated Huma.
