Mumbai, May 10 -- Police have said arrested army officer, Lt Col Jagmohan Balbir Singh may not have been involved in paedophilia, but was possibly involved in uploading and downloading clips showing child pornography. Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Himanshu Roy said initial investigations show that Singh (42) may have been acting alone. "As of now, investigations suggest he may not have been doing it for commercial gain, and was not preparing any clips himself," Roy said, clarifying that this, however, does not belittle the gravity of his crime. Police also said the two hard discs seized from Singh's house will be sent for forensic tests at the earliest. The Cyber Cell had seized two 80 GB hard discs during their raided on Singh's house on Thursday. "The two discs will be sent to the Forensic Science Lab at the earliest," said Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime), Deven Bharti. "One of them is old, the other one is relatively new," he added. Singh, attached to the Southern Command, was arrested for allegedly "viewing and uploading child pornographic photographs and clippings" on the Internet. He was posted with the Transport and Supplies department of Southern Command (Maharashtra and Goa sub-area). Police arrested him following protracted surveillance mounted on him by the Cyber Crime Investigation Cell (CCIC). Mumbai Police were alerted by Germany police, who had tipped off the Interpol wing of the Central Bureau of Investigation about the possibility of a child pornography suspect in Mumbai. The German police, during a study of two child pornography sites, had found some material uploaded from India.Singh had been remanded to police custody till May 12.
