Srinagar, May 10 (PTI) In its bid to revive sports activities at Uri sector in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir after almost 20 years, the Indian Army is organising an inter-village Twenty20 cricket tournament here. A total of 16 teams from across the sector are taking part in the tournament being organised by the Army''s 12th Infantry Brigade. Two teams from Tulwari and Garkote, which are located near the Line of Control (LoC), are also participating in the tournament. This is for the first time in 20 years that some sports activities resumed in Uri, which was devastated by an earthquake of 7.8 magnitude in 2005. In the absence of quality ground, Army is organising the tournament in its brigade headquarters, where a large number of people were present to watch the inauguration ceremony. Brigadier Nawnid Kumar opened the tournament. Student of the Army goodwill school in Uri staged an musical programme on the occasion. During the ceremony, locals displayed enthusiasm for the game and appreciated the Army''s effort to revive the game in the area. This initiative by the Army will help in discovering new talents and reviving the passion for cricket, they hoped. The teams have been divided in two polls.
