Bell ready to turn on the power for England in ODIs

London, June.17 (ANI): England middle-order bat Ian Bell is working on being more powerful and aggressive and is ready to stake a claim for a place in England's one-day side.According to former England fast bowler Derek Pringle, Bell is ready to show his batting prowess in the shorter versions of game."Batting techniques between Tests and one-day games are moving apart now due to Twenty20, so it's a bit like becoming two different players. The modern game demands you have the ability to hit over the top and that's why I've developed the power side of my game," Bell is quoted by Pringle as saying in an article for The Telegraph.Actually Bell, who last played a one-day international 20 months ago, was instructed by coach Andy Flower to go away and toughen up, and not just in terms of hitting the ball out of the park.An old hand, Flower knows that hitting over the top with any kind of success will only happen if the mind is as tough as the body, for only then will the right ball and stroke be selected."I've shown glimpses of being dominant in the past but he (Flower) wants to see more of it and more consistently. Obviously, I've tried to be stronger in terms of hitting the ball over the top, but it's more recognising the situation when to hit boundaries and when to just knock it around," says Bell.According to Pringle, Bell would like to bat at three, where he has been having success with Warwickshire, but during England's World Twenty20 success Kevin Pietersen has filled the position with some panache. Unless KP slips back to four, there may not be a place for Bell at all.Bell was talking at the NatWest Series launch. 2010 marks NatWest's 30th season supporting cricket. (ANI)
