Bid to stage fast over Justice Dinakaran land issue foiled

Tiruvallur (TN), Jun 17 (PTI) Around 80 protestors belonging to CPI-M and its farmers'' body were removed by police while trying to stage a 48-hour fast to demand retrieval of land allegedly encroached by Karnataka High Court Chief Justice P D Dinakaran and his family. The agitators, including CPI-M Central Committee member U Vasuki, All India Kisan Sabha state secretary P Shanmugam and others were removed from the protest site as they were not granted permission to stage the hunger strike, police said. Earlier, officials held talks during which the immediate retrieval of the land and its distribution among landless SC, ST members was demanded, AIKS district secretary B Thulasinarayanan said. The CPI-M backed farmers'' body has been spearheading a campaign against the alleged land grabbing by Justice Dinakaran in Kaverirajapuram village. The Karnataka Chief Justice has been in the eye of a storm over allegations of grabbing 200 acres of land in his native village in the district.
