Botswana seeks Indian companies` investment

New Delhi, June 17 (ANI): Botswanaian Vice-President M S Merafhe on Thursday invited Indian industries to invest in the African country.At the end of his four-day state visit Merafhe asked Indian industrialists to invest in sectors like infrastructure, mining, irrigation and jewellery.Merafhe said that both India and Botswana could collaborate in areas like irrigation, infrastructure and mining."Both the nations can collaborate in areas like irrigation, infrastructure and mining. We have huge infrastructure progress in the country and there is a lot of scope for cooperation," he said and stressed on the need to increase trade and investment levels between the two nations.Stating India also has excellent irrigation scheme, he said: "We are trying to benchmark with you to see how we can borrow few ideas as to how you do it."During 2008-09, bilateral trade between the two countries stood at 46.62 million dollars.The Vice-President's visit was a reciprocal one after the Indian Vice President Hamid Ansari visited Botswana as part of a three-nation southern Africa trip in January.
