Boy`s throat slit, girl hacked

Muzaffarnagar, May 8 -- In two honour-killing cases that surfaced in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, a 19-year-old boy was found with his throat slit and legs chopped off, and a girl was hacked to death in a temple. The government may amend the Indian Penal Code to define honour killing, which is not a classified crime in India. "We've completed our preparations to put in place a strong deterrent against the practice of honour killings not only against those who carry it out, but also those who abet it," said Law Minister M Veerappa Moily. In Muzaffarnagar, about 500 km north of Lucknow, the mutilated corpse of Ajit Saini, a BBA student, was dug out by stray dogs from a field on Thursday. Police said Ajit was killed by the family of Anshu Tomar (18), a Jat girl. Anshu may have also been killed, police suspect. Anshu's father, Narendra, and brother, Anuj, have been arrested. Anuj confessed to the media he killed Anshu to protect the family honour. In Khalilabad village, about 250 km east of Lucknow, Soni (20), was hacked to death allegedly by her family.The accused are absconding.
