Chandigarh, May 17 (PTI) A local court today issued a notice to the Union Information and Broadcasting ministry and others on a petition seeking constitution of a committee to control telecast of vulgarity and nudity in TV serials. Civil Judge J S Sidhu issued notice to the Secretary to the I and B Ministry on a petition filed by a local NGO Global Human Rights Council asking him to file his reply by August 18. Besides, the court issued notice to Deputy Commissioner Chandigarh, and Punjab''s Public Information and Broadcasting Secretary on the petition filed by Chairman of the Arvind Thakur. Thakur had sought constitution of a "proper committee" by the ministry for controlling the TV programmes and serials from displaying vulgarity and nudity. He contended that the serials and other entertainment programmes were produced to get more viewership by such display. "After watching these items the people of tender age are becoming criminals," he said in his petition. The petitioner submitted that the ministry''s committee constituted for reviewing programmes and advertisements codes prescribed under the cable TV Networks (Regulation) Act was "mere eye-wash."
