CN & heard

Fair weather loyalistThough the phrase Aaya Ram, Gaya Ram connoting lack of credibility amongst politicians has been associated with polity of Haryana for long where leaders change their loyalties at the drop of a hat, the malaise is prevalent in neighbouring state too. The case of newly elected President of Mohali Municipal Council Kulwant Singh is one such example. In 2001, when he was first elected the MC chief, he was a member of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) which at that time was the ruling party in the state. When Congress came to power in 2002, he joined Congress. Last month, he became the MC Chief once again, this time with Akalis assistance.Knotty affairsThe recent clarification by Chief Justice Mukul Mudgal and Justice Jasbir Singh that runaway marriage cases can be heard in the High Court has brought back smiles on the faces of young legal eagles. These cases are all that many of these young lawyers can hope for.Waiting to be heardCITCO employees were peeved at what they have termed as the apathetic attitude of the UT Administration's senior officials. They rue that while CITCO employees are working in the houses of senior officials, they are not receptive to their demands. "Are in sabhi buzurgon ke gharon par ham kaam karte hain, phir bhi ye hamaari nahi sunte" (We work at all these elderly bureaucrats' houses, yet they don't pay heed to our issues).Divine interventionThe Panchkula police may not have been successful in nabbing criminals who are having a field day in the city, but miscreants surely have brought out the spiritual side of police officers. A senior police officer said the crime around him has turned him into a firm believer in God. He now regularly holds havans to keep criminals at bay.Doomed desireEver since Bhupinder Singh Hooda was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Haryana in 2005, Bhajan Lal's relationship with Congress soured. Even as Bhajan Lal's son floated a new party Haryana Janhit Congress, he had nurtured a desire to return to the Congress. This was evidenced by a Congress flag that continued to flutter at his Sector-8 Panchkula house even as he and his two sons Kuldeep Bishnoi and Chander Mohan hurtled from one controversy to the other. The hope of reuniting with Congress was finally doomed when Hooda was able to get the Janhit Congress MLAs defect and join his government. Finally, the flag that had fluttered all along has been removed.
