A day after the murder of Congress corporator Praful Patil, the Navghar police questioned Mira Road-Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC) mayor Tulsidas Mhatre's nephew Vishal.Land dispute is emerging as the primary motive. Vishal, who police said was not a suspect at this stage, was questioned on Sunday as a routine procedure, as he is believed to have had a property dispute with Patil. Senior Police inspector Rajendra Mohite of Navghar police station said a complaint had been filed in the past against Patil for encroaching upon land owned by Vishal . "We are not looking at him as a suspect at this stage, but are conducting preliminary questioning as part of the investigation," added Mohite.On Saturday, Patil (51) was stabbed over 20 times and shot at point blank range on Saturday by two unidentified men on the campus of Abhinav College in Bhayander, run by Patil's educational trust.Initial investigations show a "good amount of homework was done by those who planned and executed the attack". The four-time corporator was attacked in the morning on the college campus, where he had gone to oversee some infrastructural construction.The attackers knew the campus fairly well as they used the rear exit to escape, police said.Officials said post-mortem report reveal that the stab marks were deep "giving an indication" the killers ruthlessly attacked Patil before shooting him with a 0.9mm pistol.Investigators have also begun a separate inquiry into all land dealings Patil might have entered into in the last few years, including land belonging to his educational trust. "We have rounded up some suspects and are looking into property dispute as primary motive. Papers of transactions concerning land deals are being looked into," said deputy superintendent of Mira Road-Bhayander police, Nitin Samsatvad.
