London, May 8 (PTI) The English counties were not happy with the way ECB was handling Twenty20 cricket but they never tried to bypass the Cricket Board while discussing a ''new model'' for the good of the game in the country, according to a media report. ECB chairman Giles Clarke had warned counties of bans after learning that with the help of Lalit Modi, suspended IPL Commissioner, and Sports management company IMG they were trying to form a parallel T20 league in England. However, both IMG and the counties have denied the charge with the IMG today coming out with a statement that they just facilitated an informal meeting between the two parties. A media report here today claimed Counties in a letter to Modi, signed by nine chairmen of Test match grounds, had written that they wanted ECB to be taken along to avoid any conflict. According to the ''Telegraph '' the letter, sent on April 13, clearly states that talks with Modi would proceed only with the full knowledge of the ECB and that a meeting with Clarke would take place on April 28. "Clearly it is important that we bring the ECB with us rather than create conflict which would only result in delays and unrest," the letter said. But the letter also revealed the dissatisfaction among the counties with the way ECB handled Twenty20 cricket. "There exists a unanimous strength of feeling between all clubs and MCC and a desire to create a new model for the long term future of the game in this country. "International cricket is dominating the landscape in England and Wales and domestic cricket is not being given the strategic focus required to capitalise on emerging opportunities," it added.
