New Delhi, May 9 -- In the Naxal-hit areas, the CRPF men will not move out for operations if the states do not provide adequate police force to assist them. The country's frontline anti-Naxal fighting force, which suffered the worst-ever humiliation after the Moaists massacred 75 CRPF personnel in the Chintalnar jungles of Dantewada last month, has taken the decision after recommendations by the E.N. Rammohan Committee, sources said. The report was submitted to Home Minister P. Chidambaram over a week ago. The CRPF's view was clearly conveyed to the Chhattisgarh police top brass during a meeting last week. "We are assisting the state police in their fight against the Naxals. Since the local police know the terrain and people better than us, we'll henceforth insist on a fair representation from the state police before leaving for an operation," said a senior CRPF officer in Raipur. For example, the Central forces would move out within 1 km of their camps only if two police officials were accompanying them. If the Central forces have to carry out an operation within 5 km of their camps, the state would have to provide at least 10-15 police officials. In Dantewada, the Chhattisgarh police had sent just one head constable with about 80 CRPF men. The CRPF has also decided that a Commandant-rank officer would be heading all big anti-Naxal operations by the Central forces.The CRPF has constituted a five-member Court of Inquiry headed by a DIG to fix the responsibility for the heavy casualty of the security forces. The probe is expected to be over within the next two weeks.
