Erode (TN), Jun 17 (PTI) A spotted deer was knocked down by a trader''s car on a highway in the district following which he was booked under Wildlife Protection Act and slapped a fine of Rs 25,000, Forest Department officials said today. The deer was killed on the forest ghat road of Satyamangalam when the car of Abdul Khader, who was proceeding to Coimbatore from Mysore, hit the animal yesterday and fled, District Forest Officer Ramasubramaniam said. The forest officials, however, managed to get hold of the trader and registered a case of rash and negligent driving against him. They also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on him for killing the deer, he said. Boards were erected at several places on the forest highways, cautioning the drivers to go slow and avoid rash and negligent driving, he added.
