News posted by www.newsinfoline.com

Long-running Doha trade talks need to be pushed forward to help the world economy emerge from the global economic crisis, the head of the World Trade Organization (WTO) said on Sunday."Global economic integration should go forward, with the Doha round acting as a vitally needed global economic stimulus package," WTO's Director-General Pascal Lamy told a conference in Bahrain."Estimates suggest that it would inject over $300 billion a year into the global economy," he said. The Doha trade talks were launched in the capital of Gulf Arab state Qatar in 2001 with the goal of helping countries prosper through trade. But negotiators have since missed every deadline they set themselves or political leaders for finishing the round.(Reporting by Frederik Richter)
