London, May 9 (IANS) England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) chairman Giles Clarke says it will not take legal action against Lancashire, Warwickshire and Yorkshire for talking to the suspended Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Lalit Modi for setting up a franchised Twenty20 league in England. The Daily Telegraph reported that in the leaked version of his letter to the Indian board, Clarke wrote: 'We have already commenced legal action with regard to the English officials and counties involved.'But Clarke claimed it was only a draft. 'It was not the formal version,' Clarke was quoted as saying by the daily.Clarke is presently in St.Kitts, where he has been watching England's women in their World Twenty20 tournament.According to reports, officials from three counties met with Modi at the end of March and, without the ECB's prior knowledge, talked about a deal by which Indian businessmen would take over a large portion of English cricket.According to the e-mail from Yorkshire's chief executive Stewart Regan, who attended the meeting: 'The 10 Indian franchises would be offered as a 'first option' to bid on 10 new English (and Welsh) franchises based around the Category A (i.e. Test) grounds.'For his part Modi announced that he is filing a defamation suit against Clarke for making an 'unfounded charge' that he was behind the planned Twenty20 league in England.Modi said he was appalled at Clarke's 'preposterous allegation'.'How could I go with a proposition like the one Clarke credits me with when I was the person who was opposed to Indian Cricket League, Arab League and US League,' Modi said.'When I insist that all players should get a clearance from their respective boards to play in the IPL, could I do anything going behind the ECB's back?'
