Editors Guild chief laments sensationalism

Bangalore, May 8 (PTI) Young journalists should keep ethics in minds as sensationalism has led to the trend of "short-cuts" in the profession, Editors Guild president Rajdeep Sardesai said here today. "What we have today is the journalism of short-cuts. It is a journalism of who got it first and not who got it right. Get the story right.it does not matter if it is ten minutes late," Sardesai, also Editor in Chief of IBN 18 Network, said. If journalists could measure up to this challenge, they can find a way of changing the profession, he said in his address at the convocation of Indian Institute of Journalism and News Media. "More media does not necessarily mean better media. It is unfortunate that we live in an era of sensationalism where people like me, who should be giving you the right information, are under pressure to hype up the information," he added.
