Family held hostage, Rs 27 lakh looted

Ghaziabad, May 16 -- Around 15 armed robbers took hostage a senior citizen and her family members for around two hours inside their house near the Apsara UP-border area of Ghaziabad late on Friday night. The robbers decamped with cash, gold and other valuables worth over Rs 27 lakh from the house, police said. Kusum Kumari (65), her four sons aged between 27-32 years, a daughter and two grand-children were taken by surprise when eight masked, armed men barged into their house at Pipe-Market area near Delhi-UP-border at around 9 pm. The men took two children aged nine and six years hostage on gun-point. "They were armed with sophisticated weapons. They decamped with Rs 27 worth of items," Seema Singh, Kumari's daughter told HT. The family members said that during the entire episode, around eight men entered the house, while seven of them stood guard outside the house. "They also had dinner, pastries, cold-drinks after the robbery kitchen," Singh said. The entire incident took a little over two hours, after which robbers handcuffed the family members and bolted them in a bedroom. Later, the family informed the police, which arrived with a dog-squad and forensic experts at the scene of crime.A case under Section 395 (punishment for dacoity) of IPC has been registered at the Sahibabad police station, officials said.
