GJM calls two-day bandh in Darjeeling

News posted by www.newsinfoline.com

Siliguri (WB), May 8 (PTI) Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) has called a 48-hour bandh on May 15 and May 16 in Darjeeling hills, Siliguri and a part of the Dooars region of Jalpaiguri district to shore up their flagging support base. GJM president Bimal Gurung today called for a non-violent movement to press for their demand of "interim set up" and gave the bandh call in a public meeting at Sukna in Darjeeling district. Having been politically alienated since he mooted the proposal for "interim set up" leaving behind demands for Gorkhaland, political commentators said GJM leaders called the bandh to revive the movement and put pressure on West Bengal government and Centre to arrange tripartite talks at political level to define the territory for the "interim set up". Gurung has been carrying out a ''march for public contacts'' for the past one month to restore GJM support base. Recently, Communist Party of Revolutionary Marxists and All India Gorkha League, which supported GJM in their movement for Gorkhaland, have deserted them for Gurung''s proposal for "interim tie up".
