Harpreet Singh tops 25m standard pistol event

Harpreet Singh topped the round for the Commonwealth Games shooting trials in the 25m standard pistol event being held at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports City, Balewadi, on Thursday.Harpreet Singh won the round with a score of 572-16x while Vivek Singh came in second with a score of 571-14x. Samresh Jung came in third place with a score of 568-16x. In the 10m Air Pistol event for women, Rahi Sarnobat topped the round with a score of 381-15x while Sonia Rai came in second with 381-9x. This will be his second Grand Slam, (first was at the Australian Open earlier this year). Shreeram has been officiating at the international level for past 10 years, and became a international white badge umpire in 2005. He has officiated at several WTA and ATP events, in India and England and Australia, and has officiated in matches of players like Novak Djokovic, Robin Soderling, Bryan brothers, Gael Monfils, Fernando Gonzalez, Marcos Baghdatis, Martina Hingis.Everest conqueror Arjun Vajpayee to be honouredSixteen-year-old Arjun Vajpayee, the nation's youngest conqueror of Mt Everest, will be honoured for this feat on June 19 by the PYC Hindu Gymkhana and Rotary Club of Shivajinagar at PYC Hindu Gymkhana. Vajapyee, who conquered the Mt Everest on May 22, 2010, will be coming to the city for the first time after his conquest . Arjun whose grandparents hail from Pune will be presented the Rotary Young Achiever Award 2010 on the occasion.
