Henry, Gourcuff left on bench for France

News posted by www.newsinfoline.com

France's record scorer Thierry Henry and playmaker Yoann Gourcuff were both left on the bench for Thursday's Group A match against Mexico at the Peter Mokaba stadium.Just as in the 1998 champions' opening 0-0 draw with Uruguay last week, coach Raymond Domenech opted for Nicolas Anelka up front rather than Henry, who has scored 51 goals from 122 internationals.Gourcuff, who looked below par against Uruguay, lost the playmaking duties to Franck Ribery, with Florent Malouda taking over Ribery's previous role on the left wing.Mexico coach Javier Aguirre made just one change to the team that started last week's 1-1 draw with South Africa, bringing in defender Hector Moreno for midfielder Paul Aguilar. Defensive stalwart Rafael Marquez takes over the armband from midfielder Gerardo Torrado.(Editing by Michael Holden. To comment on this story email sportsfeedback@thomsonreuters.com)(For more news on Reuters India, click http://in.reuters.com)
