HPSEB signs MoU for collection of power bills

Shimla, May 15 (PTI) Himachal Pradesh electricity Board (HPSEB) today signed MoU with service Centre agencies and Department of Information Technology for collection of electricity bills through Lok Mitra kendras. As per the terms of MoU, initially the electricity bills payment service would be rolled out in four districts of Una, Mandi, Kangra and Shimla on pilot basis for 3 months and later extended to all the districts in the state. Presently, the consumer has to visit the office of HPSEB at sub-division level which involved long distance traveling and consumed time but with the launching of new service, the consumers would be able to deposit the bills in Lok Mitra Kendras located at local panchayat level, an official release said. All the service charged for collection of payment would be borne by HPSEB and nothing extra would be charged from the consumer. The state government is in the process of setting up 3366 Common Service Centres named as "Lok Mitra Kendras" at the panchayat level and the task had been entrusted to Department of Information Technology in collaboration with private partners.
