Chennai, Jun 18 (PTI) Customised 1300 CC Maruti Esteem Suzuki engines mounted on bodywork made by LG Sports would make its debut in Indian circuit tomorrow in the 13th edition of the JK Tyre National Racing Championship at the MMSTs International track in suburban Irunkattukottai. Formula Rolon Suzuki 1300 CC event is a shift from the Formula Rolon Chevrolet 1600 CC which was part of the championship until last year. Compared to Chevrolet, the new Formula Suzuki car is shorter by about 17 centimeters and lighter in weight by about 50 kgs. The downforce in the car has been reduced by making some of the parts smaller. The customised engine gives up to 140 hp thrust. Four teams -- Meco Racing, Rams Racing, Prime Racing and Sharan Racing have confirmation participation and in all 15 drivers would vie for honours in this class. With the championship, considered a launching pad for the young aspirants to shine in international arena, would have six rounds (12 races) during the year. The Polo Cup conceptualised by German automobile major, Volkswagen would also be the feature of this year''s championship. The inaugural round was held last month in Pune and the next five legs would be held in Coimbatore (2 events) in July and August and the remaining races in Chennai. The single make Polo Cup car was being organised in keeping with the ''Touring Car School'' concept of the Volkswagen, which has been running events successfully in countries like US, China, South Africa and Denmark. Addressing a media conference here today, Sanjay Sharma, Head-Motorsports, JK Tyre and Industries, said, "With a continuing vision to make motorsport more popular, we have been adding new formats and categories on par with international standards. The championship has been consistently moving up the value chain to provide high level of competitiveness and exposure to young participants." The Formula LGB Swift Category events where 18 cars would be on the grid in each race and the Super Saloons event would be held as part of the championship, Sharma said.
