Kolkata, July 22 (PTI) After Sourav Ganguly, Bengal cricket is no longer a force to reckon with, but the key to improve matters lies in developing cricket at the district level, feels Union Minister of State for Shipping Mukul Roy, a new entrant at the CAB AGM this time. All India General Secretary of Trinamool Congress, Roy, who will take part in the CAB AGM through Greer Club, said sport, and cricket in general, has been neglected in the last 35 years and they need to tap the potential at the district level. As a matter of fact, in the post-Ganguly era, Bengal have seen emergence of wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha and medium-pacer Ashok Dinda -- both hailing from districts. "The need of the hour is cricket coaching camps in the districts so that we can identify the talented lots. Much needs to be done in the development at district level. We need to explore that area more," the 54-year-old told PTI in an interview. The CAB this time around will see two Union Ministers of State -- Sultan Ahmed in the working committee and Roy in the AGM -- but Roy said politics and sport should stay apart. A close aide of Mamata Banerjee, Roy said: "I am not coming into the picture as a politician, but as an individual; we should not mix politics and sport together." Talking about Bengal cricket, Roy said, "In the last 35 years, Bengal sport has been neglected. Cricket, hockey badminton, football all are neglected." "There was a time when we had gems like Amber Roy, Dilip Doshi, Shyam Sundar Mitra, Subrata Guha, Prakash Poddar, P B Dutta, Pankaj Roy, Samar Mukherjee. "We had immensely talented Sourav Ganguly and he has proved that by performance at the highest level. He could have played few more Tests. But now we need to unearth talents now." .
