Greater Noida, May 16 -- Defying the orders of a local Panchayat, a boy belonging to the Bainsla community married a girl from the Bhatti sub-caste in Chithera village in Greater Noida. The local Panchayat had ordered Jaivinder Bainsla, the bridegroom to cancel the marriage to Manisha Bhatti. However, the couple decided to go ahead with their decision to get married and did so under police protection. "Police protection was given to both the boy and the girl's family. Ghur Chari was done at the Chitehra village home of the bridgegroom Jaivinder Bainsla. Later, procession made its way towards Bishnoli village under Badalpur at the scheduled departure time of 9 am. Heavy police force accompanied the marriage procession," said R K Saini, station house officer (SHO), Dadri. "At Bishnoli Badalpur, police protection was given to the bride's family, which received the baraat. The marriage rituals were performed under police protection. At around 5 pm, the bride departed from the village and reached the bridgegroom's house safely," said Laxman Verma, SHO, Badalpur. "We are thankful to the police that the wedding ceremony could be completed without any trouble," said Net Ram Bainsla, father of the bridegroom. "I had never thought that our marriage would create such tremors in the society. Thank god, all rituals were performed safely," said Jaivinder. Bride Manisha Bhatti was thrilled to reach her husband's home, where she was given warm welcome by his relatives. The local Panchayat had ordered them not to get married. They were of the view that since the village had a majority population of Bhattis, therefore they would not allow a girl belonging to the Bhatti community to be brought to the village as a bride. The Panchayat had even threatened to kill the couple if they went ahead with their plan to get married. Later, the police had asked the panchayat members to let the wedding be conducted smoothly. However, the villagers remained divided. Some were still protesting."We will stay in the village and convince the Panchayat that we have done nothing wrong," said Jaivinder.
