`Killed` for honour, Meerut couple walks back to life

Meerut, May 9 -- Throat slit, legs chopped off and buried in a field, Ajit Saini was presumed killed for honour. His missing girlfriend was suspected to have been killed too. Another presumed honour killing that set off the national media abuzz. On Sunday, both of them gave policemen in Muzaffarnagar the shock of their lives simply by appearing in person. After the initial shock, the police focused on keeping Saini and his girlfriend - who turned up too - out of media glare before finding an excuse and a fall guy. But the couple told the media that after eloping on April 29, they stayed at various places and returned from Bijnore on Sunday only to prove that they were alive. On Saturday, the gory story of Saini's mutilated body dug up by stray dogs from a field in Muzaffarnagar, about 500 km north of state capital Lucknow, triggered a chain of revelations. The police said Ajit (20), a BBA student, fell in love with a 19-year-old girl from the Jat community, Anshu Tomar. As the girl's family did not accept the relationship, the couple eloped.Anuj confessed to the police that he had hacked Ajit and buried his body and poisoned his sister before throwing her body into the Hindon river.
