Ghaziabad, May 5 -- Surendra Koli, the main accused in the Nithari killings, was held guilty in a second case lodged against him. A total of 16 cases were lodged against Koli and his employer Noida businessman Moninder Singh Pandher after the gruesome murders had come to light three years ago. Of the 19 cases, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had filed for closure of three cases. On Tuesday, the CBI's designated court convicted Koli for the abduction, rape and murder of eight-year-old schoolgirl Aarti Prasad in September 2006. Prasad, a nursery student at Hitkari Shiksha Niketan School at Sector-31, Noida, had been reported missing on September 25, 2006. Inquiries by the Noida police and the CBI, which took charge of the case soon after, had established that Koli had abducted, raped and killed Aarti Prasad the same afternoon. Koli's heinous activities came to light on December 29, 2006, after residents of Nithari village in Sector 31, Noida, had lodged complaints against Koli. On investigation, the police had unearthed skulls, bones, biological remains and the victim's personal effects including clothes and slippers from a drain around Pandher's bungalow (D5). Both Koli and Pandher had been placed under arrest. The case was handed over to the CBI on January 11, 2007. The agency had submitted chargesheets in 16 of the 19 cases, having moved closure applications in the remaining three. On February 13, 2009, the court had awarded death to Koli and Pandher, for the abduction and murder of another Nithari killing's victim 14-year-old Rimpa Halder. In Prasad's case, the CBI did not chargesheet Pandher as he was not present when the murder took place at his bungalow, according to senior public prosecutor JP Sharma.
