Mumbai, May 11 -- Lalit Modi, the embattled IPL chairman, got a temporary reprieve on Monday after the BCCI agreed to his plea of seeking more time to reply to the first show-cause notice slapped on him on April 26. "Lalit Modi has requested the Board president (Shashank Manohar) and secretary (N Srinivasan) to extend time. The Board has taken a decision to extend time up to the 15th of May," BCCI chief administrative officer, Ratnakar Shetty told reporters. In an email to Srinivasan on Monday morning, Modi requested for some more documents pertaining to the chargesheet to be sent to his counsels. "The process to reply is underway. There is nothing wrong in asking for more time if we need more documents from the BCCI. The person alleged has every right to defend himself," Mehmood Abdi, Modi's counsel, said. "We have sought access to some more documents pertaining to the chargesheet. I think by the weekend, the reply should be submitted." While Srinivasan remained unavailable for comment, a senior BCCI office-bearer confirmed that the Board was willing to grant Modi more time. "I don't see any problem in allowing him to take more time in order to reply to the notice," he said. "After all, the BCCI can extend the deadline any time if it's a valid request." Meanwhile, Abdi also submitted the remaining documents that Modi was supposed to hand over to the BCCI."We don't need to hand over any more documents to the BCCI," he said.
