Lead futures rise on short-covering, spot demand

New Delhi, May 18 (PTI) Lead prices shot up by Rs 2.25 or 2.82 per cent to Rs 82.15 per kg in futures market today on firming trend in spot markets and strong demand. At the Multi Commodity Exchange, lead for delivery in May contract shot up by Rs 2.25, or 2.82 per cent to Rs 82.15 per kg, with an open interest of 8,308 lots. The metal for delivery in June-month contract also jumped up by Rs 2.05, or 2.53 per cent to Rs 83.15 per kg, with a business turnover of 2,096 lots. Covering up of short positions by speculators and pick up in demand at spot markets, led to a recovery in lead prices at futures market here, analysts said.
