Kasaragod, Jun 17 (PTI) One of the two inmates who escaped from the high-security Central Prison in Kannur on Monday was nabbed here today by police after a hot chase. The other inmate was held yesterday. Both of them have been described by police as "hardcore criminals". On a tip-off, a police team led by Kasaragod Deputy Superintendent of Police Vikram nabbed Riyaz, convicted in a number of criminal cases, at Fort Road in the town at around 1945 hours, police said. They said Riyaz, who sped away in a car on spotting them, was trapped after his vehicle hit a motorbike rider. In the melee, two policemen sustained minor injuries. Police had been tracing the movement of Riyaz, a native of Periyattadukkam in the northern district, after learning he had reached neighbouring Mangalore. Riyaz, along with another inmate Jayanandan, had fled the jail by breaking open the window of their cell before jumping over the high boundary wall. Jayanandan was nabbed from Udagamandalam by a team of police from Kannur yesterday.
