Metro Sports, Kids XI notch up easy victories

Metro Sports Club and Kids XI secured victories in the Podar International Invitational Hockey Tournament played at the PCMC Polygrass Stadium in Pimpri on Saturday.Metro SC turned a deficit into a rout, thoroughly beating Raja Bungalow Sports Club 7-1.Raja Bungalow took an early lead in the 6 th minute, when Rakesh Mari converted their first penalty corner of the match. Metro equalized in the 18 th minute, however, with Sangram Chaudhari scoring off a pass from Deep Patel. Patel added his own name to the scoresheet a few minutes later, latching onto a pass from Mukesh Viranje to score in the 31 st . Shabbir Sheikh gave Metro SC a 3-1 lead five minutes later, converting the team's sixth penalty corner of the match. Sheikh doubled his tally in the 46 th minute, set up by Ashish Bhosale who himself had scored in the 39 th . With the score reading 5-1 in Metro's favour, Rakesh Pollaya then added two more in the 50 th and 53 rd minutes to complete the 7-1 rout.Kids XI over came MLI Group Six in the second match of the day. Dheeraj Chavan catapulted them into the lead early in the match, finding the back of the net off a pass from Sandesh More in the 3 rd minute. Vivek Kale scored another in the 5 th minute, and added his second in the 23 rd to help Kids XI leave their opponents reeling at 3-0. MLI recovered, however, and struck twice in the 28 th and 34 th minutes to claw their way back into the match. The breakthroughs for MLI were provided by Jagdish Puduke and Somnath Sawant.However, Sachin Savant of Kids XI found his teammate Yogin Nandi free in the 43 rd minute, and Nandi calmly slotted home to give his side some breathing room as they held on for a 4-2 victory.Priyadarshini SC looked like they were heading for victory when they went into halftime with a 2-0 lead over their opponents Shiloh Sports Club. Prashant Kale drew first blood, scoring off a pass from Arnold Martin in the 4 th minute. Abhijit Gangawane doubled Priyadarshini's lead in the 11 th minute, scoring his team's second penalty corner. Shiloh SC came back strongly in the second half, with Vijay Karkatta pulling one back through a penalty corner in the 28 th minute. Ilyaz Kess then added another in the 58 th minute, slotting home a pass from Sunil Karkatta to draw Shiloh level and take the match into a tiebreaker.In the tiebreaker, Abhijit Gangawane, Dinesh Chawan and Rocky Anthony converted their penalty strokes for Priyadarshini, while Ramesh Ekka and Ilyaz Kess netted for Shiloh Sports. Priyadarshini goalkeeper William D'Souza pulled off a save off Supriya Karkatta's shot to give his team victory.
