Modern abattoir on outskirts of Meerut

News posted by www.newsinfoline.com

After involving the private sector in big-ticket projects such as expressways, airports, power generation and distribution as well as developing hi-tech cities and public health services, the Mayawati government has directed the Meerut Municipal Corporation to set up of a modern abattoir on the outskirts of Meerut through public private partnership.Overruling an earlier decision of the Meerut Municipal Corporation rejecting the setting up of a modern slaughterhouse, the state Cabinet has given its consent to the project, which envisages an investment of Rs 101.76 crore. Stating that the present slaughterhouse in Meerut is not only very old but is also situated within the congested city limits and is leading to unhygienic civic life, the state Cabinet also stated that a new hi-tech abattoir was the need of the hour and was also in consonance with the Supreme Court order. In fact, the cabinet has given an in-principle approval of replicating the Meerut model for the setting up of modern slaughterhouses in other municipal corporations in the state in order to cut down on environmental pollution and unhygienic living conditions. Apart from hygiene, the abattoir is likely to boost meat export and also create job opportunities by complementing the local packaging industry.
